- Location: Kid & Teen Central @ Central Library
- Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week
- Schedule: May vary, but will include day, evening and/or weekend hours, as needed for special events and programming needs
- Starting Annual Salary: $61,719
- FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary
Under limited direction, the Manager, Kid & Teen Central manages the operations of Kid & Teen Central at Central Library. The Manager develops Kid & Teen Central goals and outcomes that are in alignment with system directives. The Manager is responsible to plan, direct and oversee the operations and fiscal health of a business unit, department, or an operating unit within an organization. The Manager provides departmental leadership and direction in support of the organization’s goals through staffing, training, performance management and directing department workflow. The Manager is also responsible for planning and maintaining work systems, procedures, and policies that enable optimal performance of employees, volunteers and other resources within a business unit.
A successful candidate will…
Have a Master's degree in Library Science.
Have an Indiana Librarian Certification 2 – Branch or Department Head or able to obtain it upon hire.
Have 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience.
What does the job look like?
- Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates Kid & Teen Central staff; provides on-the-job learning opportunities for staff; sets clear expectations for staff and attends to individual gaps in knowledge, skills or the understanding of the purpose of assigned tasks. Conducts regular staff meetings to communicate information to staff, listens to staff concerns and reports them to senior management as appropriate.
- Oversees creation and promotion of exhibits, digital activities and programs that are of current interest to the diverse community the Library serves; schedules, delivers and evaluates based on feedback from participants, changing demographics, customer needs and interests.
- Directs staff in maintenance of the collection. Recommends new materials, organizes displays to promote the collection, evaluates and discards damaged or lesser used titles.
- Monitors patron behavior and informs patrons of library guidelines; serves as Person in Charge as needed.
- Oversees department budget.
- Collects and analyzes data on library use, services, trends and community resources.
- Instructs patrons in using online catalog, print and electronic sources to access information, and in using computers and equipment.
- Provides information by searching or recommending print or electronic sources or titles, placing material requests, searching shelves, or by referral to other libraries or community sources.
- Develops appropriate partnerships with neighborhood groups and maintains a library presence in the community through presentations, e-mail, social media and publicity.
