Monroe County Public Library
Company Overview
The library enjoys strong support in a community that values education, arts, culture, diversity, and civic engagement. The library employs approximately 165 staff, and serves the vibrant community of Monroe County’s 140,000 citizens, with an estimated operating budget of $12 million. Our 21,000-square-foot Southwest Branch is under construction and is situated on approximately five acres of property. The anticipated opening is June of 2023.
Our community benefits from the integration of both large and small employers comprised of a wide array of local business/startups, life sciences companies and a thriving technology industry. The close proximity of Indiana University – including the world-renowned Jacobs School of Music – provides numerous avenues for engagement with a diversity of cultures in the arts, the environment, technology, science, sports, and higher education.
Nestled in the rolling hills of southern Indiana, Bloomington is just 10 miles from Monroe Reservoir and is surrounded by three nearby state parks. With a reputation as one of the top cycling areas and communities in the country, Bloomington also features Indiana’s first mountain bike park, the B-Line Trail and the Switchyard Park along with bike lanes and trails within the heart of the city.
