Founded in 1870 by the Vincentian community, ST. John’s University was established as an institution of higher education with a mission to serve a growing immigrant population. Inspired by St. Vincent de Paul’s compassion for charity and service, the university strives to provide excellent education for all people, especially those lacking economic, physical, or social advantages. Remaining true to its founder’s mission, undergraduate enrollment exceeds 16,000 students and there are close to 5,000 graduate students. St. John’s is ranked among America’s most ethnically diverse universities by U.S. News & World Report and has become one of New York’s most iconic institutions dedicated to providing a world-class affordable education.
St. John’s has a distinguished faculty with 1,491 full and part-time faculty members. The University offers over 100 academic programs, including masters and doctoral programs in Business, Education, Health Sciences, Law, Liberal Arts and Professional Studies. St. John’s main campus, situated in Queens, sprawls across 105 acres and is minutes from the world’s most dynamic city, Manhattan. New York has several academic healthcare systems ranked among the Top 20 nationally by U.S. News and World Report, along with several research centers which provide a rich variety of clinical and research opportunities for students and faculty. Campus facilities include high-tech classrooms, laboratories, a 1.7 million-volume Library and the D’Angelo Center which is a five-story, 127,000 square-foot University and Student Center with classrooms, lecture halls, a Starbucks café and full-service food court.
