Young Adult Librarian
The starting amount will be between $41,238 and $49,495 annually. This is a full-time 40-hour benefits eligible position and requires a flexible schedule including evenings and Saturdays.
The Young Adult Librarian provides circulation, readers advisory and reference services to patrons of all ages, publicizes and conducts programs for young adults, supervises teen volunteers, maintains and evaluates the Young Adult Collection, and promotes young adult services to the community.
This position may also be expected to work at a public service desk providing reference and information assistance; may be called upon to occasionally serve as acting department/assistant branch manager.
The Crozet Library is located 18 miles west of Charlottesville, is an 18,000 sq.ft. LEED certified building, which opened in 2013. The library circulates over 270,000 items per year. For more information about the Library, please go to: http://www.jmrl.org/br-crozet.htm.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Responsible for assisting patrons in the use of library resources and equipment, answering reference and readers advisory questions, planning, publicizing, and conducting programs for young adults, helping to promote young adult services to the community.
General department/branch duties; occasionally fills in when manager is absent.
Other duties as required.
Education, Experience and Skills
Must have an MLS degree from an ALA accredited school.
Must have a strong public service orientation, knowledge of Young Adult literature, general knowledge of library practices, knowledge of general reference sources including electronic information resources, online databases, Internet and familiarity with Windows.
Previous experience working with young adults is preferred.
Physical Conditions & Work Contacts
Ability to push book trucks, equipment and lift up to 30 pounds. Contacts would include supervisor/department/branch manager, library staff, and the public.
