ROLEof the POSITION
Wewelcome applications for an engaged and enthusiastic librarian to serve as theliaison to the UNLV School of Medicine (SOM) with a focus on undergraduatemedical education to join our growing team of faculty librarians and staffmembers. Reporting to the new HSL Director, the incumbent will build on strong,existing professional connections with UME students and faculty. This positionwill lead in the development and assessment of instruction for undergraduatemedical students at UNLV, with support from HSL colleagues. This position willalso seek out opportunities to embed technology across a ‘high tech, hightouch’ medical education, including a virtual anatomy lab, 3D printing andvirtual reality. This position will support UME students practicing athospitals throughout the Greater Las Vegas community, so a keen interest inoutreach for distance learners and effective online education is essential.Working closely with peers at the HSL and UNLV Libraries, this position willprovide support for education, research and clinical information needsprimarily in the School of Medicine and in the Division of Health Sciences asneeded. As a tenure-track library faculty member, the incumbent will also beexpected to engage in scholarly activities, including publication, and toprovide service to the university, the community, and the profession inaccordance with Libraries and University standards for promotion and tenure.
- Develop, implement, and assess instruction sessions, both in-person and online, for UME students and faculty on topics such as evidence based practice and critical analysis
- Attend SOM UME curriculum subcommittee meetings, journal club, and other functions as the library’s representative
- Collaborate with the HSL Director and the UNLV Libraries team to conduct a needs assessment and feasibility study for expanding technology resources and a makerspace in the HSL
- Collaborate in the creation and development of promotional materials for HSL programming, resources and technologies such as 3D printing and virtual reality
- Assist collections manager with selecting electronic resources, proactive marketing and promotion of tools and resources, and assessment of collection use
- Create and maintain learning objects such as LibGuides, webpages, online modules, etc.
- Foster relationships and build strategic partnerships with SOM faculty and researchers
- Provide assistance for education, research and reference support for students and faculty in the Health Sciences Division as needed
Thisposition requires an earned Master’s Degree in library or information sciencefrom an American Library Association accredited program by the date ofappointment.
- Competence and sensitivity in working at a university in which students, faculty, and staff are broadly diverse with regard to many facets of identity, including but not limited to gender, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion.
- Experience with online instructional design or teaching
- Experience providing library outreach services
- Willingness to be flexible and adapt to a changing environment
- Familiarity with biomedical information trends, tools, and resources
- Knowledge of evidence based practice for biomedicine
- Experience in biomedical, informatics, or technology-driven environments
- Experience with conducting technology needs assessments
Thisis a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position at Rank II (equivalent toAssistant Professor). Salary range is $65,000 – $68,000. In addition,University Libraries is committed to and helps fund professional developmentopportunities. Salaries are competitive with those at similarly situatedinstitutions and dependent upon labor market. Positions are contingent uponfunding.
