Job Description

UticaCollege, a small comprehensive college in Upstate New York, is seeking applicationsfor a Reference Librarian-Coordinator of Health Sciences in the Library.The Health Studies Librarian is a member of the team of academic librarianswho, as liaisons to student and faculty, provide a range of reference services,course-related library instruction, research assistance, and collectiondevelopment in support of Utica College academic programs. The Health StudiesLibrarian serves as the liaison to programs within the School of HealthProfessions and Education, including Health Care Administration, Health CareManagement, Health Studies, Joint Health Professions, Nursing, Nutrition,Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy. The Health Studies Librarianprovides reference and information services during on-call and scheduled hours;weekend and evening reference service is required. Primary responsibilities include:

A. Coordinateslibrary services and instruction to the Health Studies areas primarily in theSchool of Health Professions and Education.

B. Participates inongoing evaluation of electronic collections pertaining to Health Studies andtheir use. Consults review resources and faculty members to determineappropriateness of acquiring, replacing or discarding Health Studies resources.Acts as liaison to faculty and orders materials for Health Studies.
Recommends additional resources to support new courses or programs.

C. Assists inteaching users research skills necessary for lifelong learning. Participateswith other librarians in teaching library research and orientation classes.Creates and maintains online tutorials and research guides (includingLibGuides) to support outreach and instructional initiatives. Continuallyincreases teaching effectiveness by formal or informal education in instructiontechniques. Establishes strong relationships with teaching faculty to coordinatelibrary instruction with curriculum.

D. Participates withother librarians in workflow analysis and collecting statistics needed toevaluate the efficiency and/or delivery of services to users. Designs andadministers quantitative and qualitative assessments and makes recommendationsfor improvements or for allocating personnel resources.

E. Applies expertiseto benefit the institution, department, profession, and community, includingservice on departmental and college committees or projects outside the librarian’snormal role, and through activities within professional and scholarlyorganizations. Maintains professional collegial contact with counterparts inother institutions; actively participates in the life of the college.

F. Demonstrates andmaintains a record of continued growth in professional and creative achievementin keeping with the standards of academic librarianship and currentdevelopments in the field. Is involved in and demonstrates leadership incollege activities and professional library organizations. Independently andactively seeks out and develops needed library projects, seeing projectsthrough to completion.

G. Takes an activerole in the development of the department’s strategic and operational plans asrequired by department leadership. Works closely with department supervisor todevelop and implement operational goals that support departmental success.

H. Responsible forworking with supervisor and other team members to achieve successful results onall established individual and departmental goals and key performanceindicators.

I. Performs otherrelated duties as assigned and/or as required by circumstance.

Qualifications:

 

ALA-accredited program; 2 years professional academiclibrary experience required; knowledge/background in the area of health studiesand familiarity with health studies materials and electronic resources; Secondmaster’s degree in relevant field highly desirable.
