Job Description

 The Electronic Resources and Discovery Librarian at theAuburn University Libraries is responsible for ensuring accurate and seamlessaccess to subscription and selected open access electronic resources.  The person in this position will assist inaligning technical services operations to improve efficiency and incontributing to the library’s new strategic plan.


The Electronic Resources and Discovery Librarian is a 12-month tenure-track faculty librarian position reporting to the Head of Technical Services.  This position works closely with the Collections Strategist and Acquisitions Librarian, two Information Technology Specialists, and a variety of library vendors in addition to collaborating across library units. The successful candidate will participate in professional and scholarly activity as well as serve on library and university committees.

 

This is a tenure track position requiring academic research, presentation and writing responsibilities to fulfill the tenure standards of Auburn University.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Managing critical components of the electronic resources life cycle from access through discovery via the library’s main discovery systems:Voyager catalog and EBSCO discovery service.

Customizing electronic resources access for the best user experience and collaborating across library units to research, test, and implement electronic resource enhancements.

Implementing and populating an electronic resources management (ERM) system or comparable functionality within a library systems platform (LSP).

Assisting with workflows supporting license agreements and contract renewals with both internal and external constituents.

Assisting with troubleshooting access issues for electronic resources.

Tracking and providing information and data used in the analysis and evaluation of electronic resources.

Developing and maintaining policies, procedures, and other types of documentation as needed.

Maintaining current awareness of emerging trends and developments in the management and marketplace for electronic resources.

Investigating new technologies, tools, and best practices for improving electronic resources management.

Performing other duties and assisting with special projects as assigned.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Masters of Library Science or equivalent from an ALA accredited program at the time employment begins.

Knowledge of library tools and systems for electronic resources management or acquisitions.

Knowledge of discovery tools.

High-level understanding of metadata with respec tto electronic resources management and discovery.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a flexible and adaptable attitude as well as a focus on customer service.

Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Two years of recent professional or high-level paraprofessional experience in academic library technical services especially in:  electronic resources management,electronic resources troubleshooting, acquisitions, and metadata.

Experience with discovery tools,especially the EBSCO discovery service.

Experience working with metadata and large file data wrangling, metadata utilities (e.g.OCLC), and automated library software.

Experience working with electronic resources tools such as OpenURL resolvers, proxy systems, knowledge bases, ERM.

Ability to troubleshoot electronic resource access problems.

Experience with COUNTER and SUSHI, NISO standards and other best practices for electronic resources statistics gathering and analysis.

Evidence of leadership and management skills.

 

SALARY/ BENEFITS:Starting salary of $56,410 for a Librarian II/Assistant Professor.  Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience/qualifications. This is a twelve-month tenure-track position.Benefits include 20 days of vacation leave/12 days of sick leave per year;participation in State Teachers’ Retirement System (mandatory); additional voluntary retirement plans available; health/dental/life/disability insurance.
