An earned doctorate.

A record of scholarly andprofessional achievement sufficient for appointment as a tenured fullprofessor.

Evidence of commitment to 100%online learning.

Comfort with working with a geographically-distributedfaculty and staff using email, web conferencing, instant messaging and othertools.

Demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to the educationalgoals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-culturalstudy, training, teaching and other comparable experience.


Successful record of administrative and financial leadershipincluding strategic planning, budgeting, student success, and assessmentexperience.

Continue to position the School ofInformation at San José State University as aglobal leader in the 100% online delivery of education for the informationprofessions.

Ensure continued American Library Associationaccreditation and re-accreditation of the MLIS program.

Provide leadership in strategicplanning, future program growth, student success, and assessment to ensure thatcurrent and future directions are articulated with clear goals and key successfactors.

Lead and foster the developmentand recognition of faculty through recruitment, appointments, and equitablepromotion and tenure processes.

Lead the development ofdisciplinary and interdisciplinary research activity and stimulate growth infunded research.

Serve as a strong advocate for theSchool’s interests within the College and the University.

Take a leadership role inprofessional associations at the local, national and international level.

Lead the development of new andentrepreneurial online learning models and programs.

The School of Information delivers all degrees andcertificates 100% online. It offers:

3 masters degrees: Library andInformation Science (MLIS) [Accredited by the American Library Association],Archives and Records Administration (MARA), and an MS in Informatics.

2 certificate programs: AdvancedCertificate in Digital Assets and Services and Post Masters Certificate in Library and Information Science.

1 credential program: TeacherLibrarian Credential program [Accredited by the California Commission onTeacher Credentialing].
