Job Description

Utah State University (USU) Libraries seek acollaborative, innovative, flexible thinking, and service-minded librarian tocontribute to the Libraries’ digital preservation efforts. The Digital Assets/Accessioning Librarian serveson the newly-formed Digital Stewardship Team, comprised of members from theCataloging and Metadata, Digital Initiatives, Special Collections, and InformationTechnology units.  The Team isresponsible for the development and implementation of digital preservationprocedures, processes, and workflows for born digital and digitized informationcreated by or donated to Utah State University.  The Digital Assets/AccessioningLibrarian is primarily responsible for providing technical guidance and supportto curators and librarians on the development and implementation of workflows,best practices, and policies associated with the onboarding, appraisal, andingestion of born digital information,including electronic records, digital objects (text, image, audiovisual), webpages, and datasets.  Thisposition will liaise with multiple internal and external stakeholders,including curators, catalogers, systems analysts, vendors, and donors toestablish sustainable and cohesive onboarding, evaluating, and ingesting processesfor digital file appraisal.

Reporting to Head of DigitalInitiatives, the position is a 12-month, tenure track faculty appointment withrank as Assistant Librarian.  Theanticipated start date is February 1, 2020.

 

Responsibilities:

·        Work withthe Library’s Digital Stewardship Team and Information Technology unit toevaluate and recommend platforms for archiving the University’s electronicinformation, with particular emphasis on University websites, email, anddigital records.

Contributes to the development of digitalpreservation workflows including ingesting,managing, file naming, preserving, and storing digital materials.

·        identifyand prioritize collections for risk, obsolescence, or discoverability, includingexisting backlogs and imminent digital acquisitions.
