BookOps is the shared library services collaboration of New York PublicLibrary (NYPL) and Brooklyn Public Library (BPL), coordinating the selection,acquisition, cataloging, processing and distribution of physical and digitallibrary materials for these member libraries and their users across New Yorkand around the world. In support of NYPL’sStrategic Priority of More People Reading More, this position will coordinateand support BookOps’ integral role in developing, supporting, expanding accessto, and increasing NYPL’s e-book readership.


     Understand, coordinate with, and implement the Library’s e-reading strategies through the analysis, reporting and collections development activities undertaken by BookOps and NYPL’s Digital department

     Work with the Digital Leadership team and other key business partners to envision, develop, implement, and evaluate policies,procedures, and practices around the Library’s e-book collection

     Undertake, maintain, interpret, and present regular and detailed reports of relevant statistical data to senior business partners and decision-makers

     Work with key business partners to support expanding the reach and use of NYPL e-reading resources to the Library’s current and future patrons; SimplyE partners, including BPL; and beyond

     Investigate, recommend, and implement new models and priorities of e-book purchasing and lending to improve and support e-book collections and the e-reading experience

     Serve as member of BookOps’ Management Team,relevant Digital Working Groups, and other related internal and external professional groups

     Facilitate discussions with existing and prospective vendors on needed improvements and enhancements for NYPL’s current e-reading services and experiences 

●  Represent BooksOps, and by extension NYPL, in professional and public forums

Required Education & Experience

    ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library or Information Science

     Minimum 3-5 years experience in public or academic library collection management

Required Skills

    Thorough knowledge of theories, practices, trends, activities, tools, and licensing models associated with the acquisition, cataloging, selection, marketing,discovery, and overall management of e-books in the public library market

   The ability to collate, analyze, model, and interpret data

    Deep and broad knowledge of the international publishing industry and library e-content vendors

    Knowledge of, and commitment to, the principles of intellectual freedom, diversity, equity,and inclusion in library collections

   Problem solving, accuracy, and attention to detail

    Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

    Experience using NYPL’s SimplyE and other e-reading platforms

    Fluency with data management tools and ability to interpret library statistics, including circulation and demographic information

    Awareness and understanding of current and past models of library e-content licensing and recognition of varying perspectives of involved parties

    Proven results in working collaboratively across a complex organization to accomplish shared strategic goals

    Successful experience negotiating licenses and agreements with content vendors

    A track record of successfully advocating for libraries and library users on an industry-wide level

●   Successfully demonstrated ability to work effectively, manage change, respond nimbly, think innovatively, and provide vision in a hierarchical team environment
