The Library will be recruiting for two full-time Librarian I positions to serve in the Children’s and Family Services division.
This recruitment list may establish an eligibility list used fill current or future vacancies.

Children's Services Librarian I responsibilities:
- Work with the Children's Services Supervisor to lead the day-to-day operations of the Children's Services Division.
- Work collaboratively to develop and maintain the children's materials collection.
- Plan and implement large-scale library programs, special events and reading programs.
- Assist in managing the Children's Services Division budget.
- Supervise and evaluate the work performance of Children's and Family Services staff and volunteers.
- Act as a designated "person in charge" and ensure the adherence to the Library's Code of Conduct and policies.

Requirements
ARE YOU QUALIFIED
Education and/or Experience:
Graduation from an American Library Association accredited college with a Master's degree in Library Science or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.
Examples of Acceptable Substitutions:
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an American Library Association accredited college with a Master's degree in Library Science.
Substitution: A total of five (5) years of librarian experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of professional library work; basic reference methods; principles and techniques used in bibliographic research; current library technology. Ability to analyze community needs and recommend plans for modifying or extending library services; use a microcomputer to search for information and to tie into network sources from other library systems; locate information on and instruct patrons in the use of CD-ROMs; communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a wide variety of individuals to promote library programs and meet patron needs; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Frequent standing and sitting. Dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces of paper; occasional lifting of items weighing up to twenty-five pounds such as files, stacks of paper, reference books and boxes of book shipments and other materials. Moving from place to place within the office; some reaching for items above and below desk level. Strength, dexterity, coordination and vision to use keyboard and video display terminal frequently and for periods of one hour or more.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Generally clean work environment with limited exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, odors or noise. Work schedule may include evenings and weekends.

Successful candidates shall be required to:

Provide proof of a valid California driver's license and be insurable; and
Degree Verification; and
Pass a pre-employment medical exam
If hired, candidate will be required to complete a verification form designated by Immigration and Naturalization Service to certify that they are eligible for employment in the United States of America and furnish proof certifying legal authorization to work in the United States.
